NEWS: Be on the lookout for some exciting new changes to the club including 2020 board members, and updated website, and improved communications to the community – not to mention the great TRAILS projects we are working on!!!  We have feedback from the recent survey and will be looking to use this community feedback to strengthen the club for a great 2020!! Stay tuned!!

Our mission is to maintain and expand recreational trail access to mountain bikers and all trail users in the Fox Valley region.

Fox Valley Mountain Bikers (FVMTB) was formed in early 2013 out of a necessity for mountain bike advocacy and greater access to mountain biking trails in Wisconsin’s Fox Valley region. Mountain bikers in the Appleton/Neenah/Menasha area have access to great trails within a 45 – 60 minute drive, but were looking for something a little closer to home.

At the same time, there was a push from other trail clubs in Northeast Wisconsin to form an IMBA chapter and they were looking for a group from the Fox Valley to join their cause. FVMTB was happy to join and helped form the NorthEast Wisconsin Trails collective, NEWT for short.

NEWT has been awarded official IMBA chapter status as a part of the 2013 Spring IMBA Chapter class. For more information on NEWT and FVMTB’s sister trail clubs, please visit

meBirth dateMarch 28th, 1987
Rides: Specialized Stump-jumper Comp 29er, Custom Built Race Road Bike,  1979 Manta Road Bike
Occupation: Financial Planner – Partner at Julian Strategic Alliance Group
Bicycling Interests: Mountain, Road and some Transport
Mountain Biking history: I have always been biking my entire life, but recently picked up mountain biking  in 2010 and have been hooked ever since. I joined the Titletown Flyers Cycling Team in 2012 and now ride for Wade’z Bike Shop in Wautoma.
Favorite Trails: I race in the WORS and WEMS series and really enjoy the majority of the trails in those series, some of those systems are only rideable  during those events. But obvious choice here is Copper Harbor Trail systems and the Tech Trails in upper Michigan. Those trials seem almost magical and is an experience any mountain biker should enjoy
Vision for FVMTB and Bio: My Vision for FVMTB is looking long term. This sport is growing so fast and people are craving more trails and resources on mountain biking. I feel our club can be the catalyst and the conduit between riders and these trail systems. I also see FVMTB getting involved in cycling advocacy and providing the opportunity for children to get involved in this sport.

Vice President – Ryan Peterson

Birth date1982ryan
Rides: My MTB is a full suspension Iron Horse Maverick 2.0, put together on the cheap. Commuter is Spot Acme belt drive. Also have a cheap Iron Horse hardtail and an 80s Bianchi road bike.
Occupation: Mechanical Engineer at Miller Electric
Bicycling Interests: I like both technical and flowy singletrack. I absolutely love bombing through the woods and enjoy finding different scenery to ride.
Mountain Biking history: A coworker introduced me to singletrack back in 2010 in Lansing, MI, where we rode Burchfield Park, Yankee Spring Rec Area, Fort Custer, Brighton State Rec Area. I was instantly hooked.
Favorite Trails: Rode the Rock Lake trail in CAMBA, which was as epic as IMBA claims. But I love just about every trail I’ve ridden. Baird’s Creek seems rather epic as well, but I’ve only ridden it in the dark so far!
Vision for FVMTB and Bio: Build trails for every level of rider and build them close to the Fox Cities. I love silent sports, but I don’t love tons of people burning fossil fuels to get to silent sports destinations.

Treasurer – Josh Ball

Birthdate: March 2, 1986josh
Rides: 2013 Norco Sight 3.0 for ripping dirt; 1990’s era Soma Road bike converted to singlespeed for riding around town
Occupation: Product Development Engineer – Flexible Pacakaging
Bicycling Interests: mountain biking, short commutes in town
Mountain Biking history: I went to Michigan Tech, a school that has its own mountain bike trails and is located 40 minutes from Copper Harbor, and never touched a tire to dirt (big mistake!). In the spring of 2012, three years after graduating I found myself in Appleton, WI and needing a hobby, so I picked up mountain biking.
Favorite Trails: Copper Harbor (Flow, Woopidy Woo, Red Trail, etc.); Riverview Gardens
Vision for FVMTB and Bio: I’m excited to see the traction that FVMTB has gained in its first year as an organization and excited for where it’s headed. Generally speaking, I’m hopeful for a trail system within the Fox Valley that does not require riders to drive 45 minutes one way to ride; more specifically, I’d like to see an urban trail system in Appleton on which a rider can log 5 to 10 miles in one loop (and maybe a skills park too!). As a part of NEWT, I’d like to see our IMBA chapter team together and develop a large trail network that can eventually be designated as an IMBA Epic or IMBA Ride Center.
